The Botanic Garden; Consisting of Highly Finished Representations of Ornamental Flowering Plants Cultivated in Great Britain with their Names, Classes, Orders, History, Qualities, Culture and Physiological Observations Volume IV

$75.00 inc GST

1832 (publisher’s information gives date as 1831-1832). 195x160mm, no pagination (around 150pp), bound in original marbled boards and half cloth. The cloth appears to be a modern adhesive repair to the original bind. A good antiquarian volume subsequent to the repairs, the plates are the strongest feature of the work, remaining notably vibrant, apparently all maintained by original tissue gaurds. There is some rubbing, foxing, and offsetting from the plates to text pages, as well as a stable but evident splitting of the front hinge, chipping of pages and board, a contemporary (discrete) inscription on the free front endpaper, and a discrete exlibris plate on the paste-down. Nonetheless, memorable as a lovely illustrated work.
