Pictorial Book-plates: Their Origin; and use in Australia

$250.00 inc GST

1931. 225x145mm, 144pp, illustrated throughout with a total of 86 plates in example, featuring tipped-in as well as printed facsimile plates, few printed in multi-tonal or colour monochromatic, bound in marbled cloth hardcover with gilt lettering and embossed rule on the front cover, all edges deckle. A good copy overall, there is some weakening and partial splitting of the internal front and rear hinges, as well as some toning of the internal extremities. The binding itself is attractive with a slight spine lean (cocked), and some usual shelf-wear of the edges and corners, and a slight mark of the front cover. A lovely copy of a significant work.

SKU: 32314 Category: Tag:

Scarce item, with many well-known Australian artists involved in the creation and production of the plates. This copy contains an inserted plate belonging to Harold Sutcliffe Mort which appears to be signed (in pencil) by Eirene Mort, noted botanical and wildlife illustrator, whose personal plate features (p.50) in the text.
