Familiar Wild Flowers Series 1-5 (rebound)

$75.00 $30.00 inc GST

c1890, no publisher’s date, but based on cut of the page edges and plate quality, appears later than other listed sets. 5 volumes appear to be rebound as two, featuring the same plethora of chromolithographs as monochorme vignettes at chapter closing, but bound in slightly later full cloth with gilt lettering on the spine, textured cloth, and edges rough/uncut. An attractive rebind generally with some wear (not atypical), little foxing of the extremities, and offsetting of the endpapers. This is a tidy series with remarkably bright pages (text and plates). An attractive antiquarian set with a very good number of antiquarian chromolithographs.

Whilst this does appear to be “the first series with coloured plates” there is another set available with the same description, but a variation in the numbering of the cloth. This may indicate they are the same edition, merely different printings, however, it is not possible to determine with certainty which was first. Very pleasant set.
