A much-needed scientific study of their behaviour. From my limited contact with them at Seal Rocks, very intelligent animals. One female and I had a game of chasings on a deserted Lighthouse Beach early one morning. She looped around me at high speed as I made mock advances when she got close, and she then dodged off at a tangent and looped again. This went on for 20 minutes until we both tired and went our separate ways. I’m sure she was grinning. I was. On another occasion, I was trailed up the sandhills from the beach by two hungry-looking beasts. They weren’t playing.
